SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

In our work with substance abusers, it became obvious that it is extremely important to provide holistic services, with an emphasis on appropriate screening, assessment, and evaluation. Services need to be individualized, with the program fitting the client's needs. For the most part, clients with substance problems derive the most benefit from a variety of treatments selected on a client by client basis. Clients need to be held accountable for their behaviors through random urinalysis and an accurate recordkeeping process on attendance, payments, homework assignments, etc.

It is vital to the provision of effective services that the referral source and the provider of Substance Abuse services have an ongoing, close communication on all levels. The working relationship between agencies is important on several levels. First, at a management level, it is important to have close communication to proactively address the needs of the referral source, the clients, and Counseling Associates. Communication on an ongoing basis will help prevent or remedy any problems effectively and in a timely manner. Denial, manipulation, and avoidance are to be expected of any substance abuser and the criminal justice offender is especially prone to use these techniques. This should be seen as symptomatic of the substance abuse problem and used as a treatment opportunity. It is our belief that by working together and communicating in an ongoing basis there can be an effective method to address problems that may arise. Identification of problem areas is the first step, frequent and routine meetings/telephone calls is the second, and arriving at a mutually agreeable resolution is the third. Monitoring will include field visits to each office, file reviews, group reviews, and monthly billing reviews. This monitoring will be done by Dr. Hall, Dr. Pennell and the Clinical Supervisor. Monitoring is also done by the Department of Corrections, The Department of Children and Families and various other institutes that found or validate quality services.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

Services are provided in the strictest of confidence. Federal regulations prohibit the release of any information without the client's specific written consent. Licensing agencies have access to client records. Reports from agencies will not have individual client information that identifies them.
